Advanced Seismic Data Acquisition & Processing
Jaap Mondt
40 hrs (Blended learning)
Business context
The aim of the course is to explain, using "Blended Learning",
modern ways of acquiring and processing 3D seismic data.
Power-point presentations and videos will introduce various aspects
of acquisition and processing, but the emphasis is on
computer-based exercises.

Who should attend
All those involved in either designing or supervising
acquisition and processing with emphasis on the appropriateness in
view of the exploration and production objectives, hence, asset
geologists and geophysicists, acquisition and processing
experts.
An understanding of the role of Geophysics in the context of
exploration and production and a good foundation in Geology,
Geophysics & Physics. A pre-requirement quiz can be taken to
check whether their knowledge of Geology and Geophysics is
sufficient to follow the course.
Course content
The lectures and exercises deal with the fundamentals of wave
propagation, survey design, resolution requirements, different
acquisition strategies (sparse, hybrid and areal geometry, Blended
sources, coil geometry, symmetric sampling), sampling and aliasing,
velocities, frequency & wavenumber domain, time and depth
imaging, Full-Waveform Inversion, illumination &
Point-Spread-Functions, Time-Depth Conversion using raytracing,
Anisotropy, Machine Learning as a tool to assist processing.
Learning, methods and tools
At the end of the course participants will have a clear idea how
optimum acquisition and processing should be done. This will be
evident from the examples shown and the exercises. The Blended
Learning courses is based on an user-friendly courses management
system called Moodle.
