Jon Noad
Jon Noad studied Geology at Imperial College, London, graduating
in 1985. He joined Gencor in South Africa and spent four years
working as a Geologist on Gold and Platinum Mines in the
Witwatersrand and Bushveld Complexes. He returned to the UK in 1991
and worked as a marine geologist for British Telecom (Marine),
surveying submarine cable and pipeline routes. During this time, he
studied at evening classes for a MSc, in Sedimentology at Birkbeck
College, London, earning a Distinction. This led to a full time
PhD. Exploring the Sedimentary Evolution of Eastern Borneo.
Upon successfully completing his studies, Jon joined Shell
International in the Netherlands, working in Production (Tern
Field, North Sea; Piltun Field, Sakhalin and several Nigerian
projects) and Exploration, focusing on Libya and Iran. In 2006 he
moved to Shell Canada, taking on the Frontier Team Leader role for
the Exploration Team. He also worked on tight gas and was lead
geologist for the Orphan Basin exploration team. Jon joined Murphy
in 2010 as Exploration Manager Canada, and worked at Husky
(Geological Specialist) and Gran Tierra Energy, drilling seven
wells in Colombia.
Since 2016 Jon has been managing his own geological training
company and consultancy (Sedimental Services), running over 40
field trips as well as core workshops and a variety of classroom
courses. Over the last five years he has also taken on a series of
construction projects as Consulting Palaeontologist, as well as
core logging, geological website development and research
projects.
